Tonight, Jews begin celebrating Lag Ba’Omer, with bonfires and kids playing with bows & arrows.
Among the historical events associated with Lag Ba'omer is the second Jewish Revolt led by Bar Kochba which was a war of Jewish national liberation against the Roman Empire. During the years 132 through 136 CE, Jews in Judea (ancient Israel) bravely fought against Roman efforts to crush their faith and identity.
The tradition to light bonfires on Lag Ba’Omer is reminiscent of the bonfires that were used by the ancient Jewish fighters to send signals to one another.
