Terrible mistake not to finish the job. “War is horrible but in War there is no substitute for victory”. Listen to Ganz Bebe that which your brother would have told you.
Returning the hostages was one of Israel’s primary military objectives. I disagree that’s a mistake, and also disagree with the premise that that the job won’t be finished.
Israel will never return to a pre October 7th reality. Nor should it.
Trading thousands of murderous who have killed already and will kill hundreds of future Israelis supplied by the West for a few dozen hostages seems a very poor trade to those like Ganz who do the actual fighting . Coming from a country with a leadership which has specialized in surrendering for 50 years I agree with Ganz . Perhaps we could compromise by issuing a flak jacket and rifle to participate in the next war to those who advocate half-measures but never seem to be there when the next round starts.
Israel is a democracy and the political coalition who voted to approve this deal were elected by the people. Also, most Israelis are conscripted, except for religiously exempt, so they are the ones in harm way living with the direct consequences of their decisions.
I understand the sentiment, but I don’t think right now is the time to implement a change in how Israel negotiates hostage situation, I think those policies should be revisited later when there are no hostages being held on a go forward basis.

Beautifully said Mr. Crystal. Strength to Israel, our forever ally.
